Yuanyang

Updated: Apr 26, 2020

Yuanyang, Yunnan 云南省,元阳

Two days and 16 hours of busses from Xishuangbanna brought me to beautiful Yuanyang 元阳. The rice terraces 梯田 cover 12,500 hectares (48 sq/m) and cascade down various hills. Although it was pretty foggy when I went, the relaxed atmosphere made it a serene place to rest for a few days.

I spent most of my time in Duoyishu village 多铱树.

Local kids playing.

After I saw them laughing and rolling their toys down the hill I knew I had to put an end to it, so I gave them both an xbox and never heard them laugh again

Getting ready for sunset near the village of Bada 八达.

The bowl of rice terraces was filled with fog, but it was still a great evening.

I asked her if I could take the photo, to which she replied 可以 (can), and then hassled me for money. I initially said no, but after thinking about it, giving her some small bills made a little sense. I went back and gave her 3 kuai and then she asked for money for her granddaughter.

Money money money. And a dash of mistrust.

A walk down to the terraces.
