My Backyard

San Isabel National Forest, Colorado, USA

Early this summer, I took some time off to celebrate Throat Slit Day. After I recovered (with the help of Mom, Ben, and Tim) I started cramming in as many solo trips as I could before the school year started. I began with a hike up Frenchman Creek trail.

Stoked for my first solo camping trip, I loaded the truck and took off down the south fork of Clear Creek road. This primo spot put me right next to the trailhead to Huron Peak. This is the same road Mom and I cruised up last Autumn to pick up Ben as he backpacked from the Gunnison side of the mountains.

Stream crossings would be high up on my list of Favorite Things on Earth.

And mountain meadows.

And wildflowers.

En route to Huron Peak.

This is taken from the summit of Huron Peak (14,003'). On the other side of the ridge is the Gunnison National Forest. A bit to the left is Lake Ann (hard to see) and the pass where Ben hiked over. And apparently, Dr. Evil is flying above, casting a shadow of his spacecraft on the ground below.

The next day I hiked the trail to Lake Ann and scampered up to the pass. It provided a great view of Huron Peak.
