The Best Summer Ever continued to manifest through a long-awaited and absolutely wonderful visit to see Erika in Lake Tahoe. Her and I met about four or five years ago in Thailand and kept in touch via email throughout the years. After meeting briefly in Colorado a few years back, we both had our eye on the next time we could visit together. This summer lined up perfectly for both of us, so I flew in and we let the fun commence. Erika and her landlord/my new buddy Doug were super kind in hosting me.
The water in Lake Tahoe was cold and so, so clear. It has visibility up to 70 ft and felt as refreshing as the Umpqua river.
After wakesurfing in Oregon, I felt like a seasoned vet (except for not being very good and relying on the rope the whole time). A super fun activity, if I dare say so.
Refreshed, we began our 18-mile day hike up Echo Lake trail. Lower Echo Lake in the background as Erika's new rescue dog Zig gives her kisses.
The clouds rolled in when we arrived, so we shot back rather quickly. Our hike back included about 2 miles of bushwhacking, which was probably the most enjoyable part of the hike. Lake Tahoe and the surrounding forests are stunningly beautiful, and Ziggy hikes like a champ.
We wrapped up this short & sweet trip by strolling up to a local lookout hill. The wildfires continued to rage up north.
Thanks for hosting me, Erika! You're wonderful.
