Fossil Ridge

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

Fossil Ridge Wilderness, Colorado, USA

Almost as soon as I moved into my place in Buena Vista, Ben and Matt planned a three-day backpacking trip through the Fossil Ridge wilderness. We hiked in and slept at Lamphier lake the first day and eventually mobbed up Henry mountain.

I like these two pictures as they show the exposed rock as a result of mountain erosion. Prime fossil hunting.

Matt, with the camera around his neck, took a bunch of photos. You can assume that any of the good photos posted here were taken by Matt.

We arrived at Henry lake on our 3rd night before our hike out.

A female mountain goat high up in the rocks above Henry lake. She is guiding her two kids down the cliffs.

And our trek out of the mountains begins.

A good trip. Matt made it back to the car literally hours before Ben and I.

And, of course, a trip down to the land in the San Luis valley.
