A Short Visit to Thailand

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

Krabi, Thailand

Actually, it all started when Paul, Tim, and Matt flew flew into Chengdu for a visit. They actually planned a pretty great trip through China (by my standards; I was impressed). They visited the Forbidden City, ate Beijing roast duck, saw the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an, climbed Huashan Mountain (which I haven't yet), and took photos of pandas in my home city of Chengdu. This was taken as we dined at a favorite Uyghur restaurant near my apartment.

After a few days hanging out, I took off to Bangkok to take some exams for work. I stayed at an Air B&B on the top floor of an apartment complex on the east side of the city. Wasn't there for more than a week. Soon after the tests I caught a flight to meet up with the brothers in Krabi. They, in the meantime, took the overland route and stopped in Kunming, China (my main hub on the SW China Backpacking trip).

Bangkok, looking southwest.

After Paul, Tim, Matt and I all reconvened in Thailand, we found Banana Bungalow. We stayed at this waterfront spot for about a week. I was still working on my master's so I was busy, but we found some time to kayak around.

After Krabi, I flew up to Chiang Mai for a training to teach ESL. It was a month-long intensive training which I completed while also studying for my master's as a full-time student. This pleasant pool allowed for lunchtime laps which hopefully offset my unhealthy evening vices.

Paul (being awesome) stayed near Chiang Mai and rented a motorbike. One Saturday, he swung by my conference center and picked me up for a day cruise around the mountains. It was supersick.

Ah, Thailand. I'll be back.
